Narrow gauge in Colorado

In July 1998, we where able to stay a few days in Vail, Colorado.  I was able to get about and see a number of the train sites that exist in the area.  If you ever have the chance to get there, do so!

Minture

A shot of the yard in Minturn, Colorado.  This was a standard gauge yard for the D&RGW railway.  This portion is currently abandoned.  Shortly the track will be removed.  I was not trying to find Minturn, just ran across it.  It was after the fact that I learned where I had been and the historical significance of the location.

Georgetown Loop

The bridge on the Georgetown Loop.  Here are two narrow gauge desiels that run on the line.  Toursets can ride the line between Georgetown and Silver Plum.  At times they run shay locomotives - the day that I was there, they where running the diesels.

Looking toward Georgetown with the line going under the Georgetown bridge.

Silver Creek - The stream where gold and silver where found in the mountains of Colorado.  This is looking east under the Georgetown loop towards Georgetown.

A number of vintage narrow gauge cars are located in Silver Plum on the Georgetown Loop Railroad.  Here is a D&RGW box car that I was able to take a picture of.

A D&RGW caboose in Silver Plum.

A D&RGW refigerator car in Silver Plum.
