Jig Stones

What are Jig Stones

Jig Stones are a set of molds you use to manufacture interlocking brick sections for large scale (1:24 scale or there abouts). You use quick-setting cement in the molds. These molded pieces you then assemble into the buildings or bridges using heavy duty contractors type glue (Liquid Nails or the like) (I am using a polyurtheane glue that sets up with water). Being made out of cement, the assembled buildings easily hold up to the rigors of the outside environment (and they do not blow away in a strong wind!)

Below is a bridge that I have been working on.  the three pillers for center supports are yet to be completed, but you can get the general idea of what is going on.

There are a variety of different brick styles and various types of molds for manufacture of a variety of pieces. I used a set of curved bridge pieces with the basic set to make the 4 foot bridge. The system also includes molds for doors and window frames. I used Bondo in the molds to make various doors and windows.

I have also found that using concrete coloring agents (made by Quick Crete), you can make brick sections in colors other than grey. I have tried dusting the molds with colored grout to get a varied surface appearance, but have not had good luck thus far.

Jig Stones also contain molds for windows and doors.  I use Bondo (you know, that pink stuff that kept your '57 Chevy together with) to mold with.  It is easy to use and sets up rather quickly.  The parts come out of the molds real easy and can be cleaned up with an hobby knife.
