Freight cars
Most of the freight cars on the ET&WNC are scratch built. I have attemped
to be true to narrow gage practice but have not been overly restrictive
to produce only cars that where on the ET&WNC railroad. I built what
I wanted to build. In fact, a number of the car designs are my own. I have
tried to make sure that the cars did maintain a flavor of narrow gage.
-
Box Cars - 6 of them scratch built. 5 marked ET&WNC and 1 Linville
River
-
Hoppers - 3 of them scratch built
-
Stock Car - 1 of them marked ET&WNC. The car is scratch built. The
wood was striped form a 1x4 cedar board.
-
Flat Car - 1 of them scratch built
-
A number of Bachmann cars are also part of the inventory. These cars are
able to stay outside all the time.
Here is one of the 5 ET&WNC boxcars that I have scratch built. The
plans for these box cars came from Graden Railroad magazine. |
A little closer view of one of them. |
Six where made in all. One of them has been marked with Linville River
railroad. All six of them together makes for a fine train. |
One of the 3 hoppers scratch built from Garden Railroader plans |
My own plan, but the frame is the same as the box cars. This car was made
from wood striped from 1x4 cedar. Unpainted, it was an interesting car
to see. |
A flat car that I am waiting for the picture for. |
Passenger Cars
I have scratch built (my own design also) one combine. My plans are to
also build two coach cars in the future of a similar design. The basic
frame has already been cut for both cars.
This was an interesting car to build. The actual hard part was the window
frames. I did put seats in the coach part of the car in the manner of narrow
gage coaches (seat for 2 on one side and seat for 1 on the other). I painted
the car with Wisconsin Central maroon - it looks good with the gold marking.
There is also a number of Bachmann coaches. These are nice to have as
they can stay outside unlike the scratch built cars. Inaddition, these
cars when repainted fairly closely represent cars that where on the ET&WNC
when passenger service existed.
