The Marylonad Sheep and Wool Festival is held each year at the Haywood County Fair grounds each year in May. It is a multi-day event with vendors open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. There is plenty of free parking and the food is great (lamb gyro's!) The week before the public events is the animal and product showings. There are vendors from all over the country selling spinning, weaving, and animal raising equiment along with their final goods.
Not much to do for children unless they enjoy animals and wool.
Husbands are good as pack animals. The public annoucer has a great
sense of humor - typical announcements where "Marysue, your husband and
children are waiting by the exit and are ready to leave."
This
poor fellow did not seem to enjoy his current predicament (BLAAAA!!!).
Well, at least, that is what he was saying. There where many animals
there both for show and purchase (no, we should not go into sheep farming!) |
Besides
all the food, wool and animarls, there were also demonstrations.
Here are a couple of border collies doing what they do best. As you
can see, they were well into their work and the folks also where very consumed. |
Here
are some fine goats for sale. There where rabbits, goats, sheep,
lamas along with all the farm equiment need to raise these animals.
About the only thing they where not selling was the time and ambition to
get the job done. |
What
wool festival would be complete without wool. There was both spun
wool (dyed and natural), bags of raw wool, and finished goods. Here
are some fine examples of some natural wool. |
.Here
are some hanks of dyed wool. |
Guess what these
are? Did I mention there was wool at the festival! |
